Hey, just to say that my new blog is now http://megodbike.flashmedia.biz
How Microsoft is the bane of my life.
•July 11, 2008 • 1 CommentI really do hate Microsoft. The other day windows did an automatic update which conflicted with my Firewall not allowing me to get on the internet. Now I’ve disabled my updates and a little warning message keeps coming up.
Also I am currently coding a few websites and though the CSS works perfectly in most browsers, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom have made IE not compatible with normal CSS…
I hate microsoft
Road Rage
•July 1, 2008 • 3 CommentsIts a good thing I care enough about the fact that my bike and I would not survive a crash with a car… Because if I didn’t next time someone pulls out in front of me I might just keep on going just to prove a point.
Twice now cars have pulled out infront of me when on a hill near my house causing me to lock my back wheel… If I had reacted a second later I would have hit the deck. And another time I was drafting behind a car at 40k/h and I slowed down for a roundabout leaving about a 15m gap between me and the car (thats about 1.5 seconds) and this woman with her two dogs walks between me and the car. There must be a flat patch on my rear wheel. I must note that all three of those situations contained women but I have had my fair share of annoying old men, boy racers and middle class types who think they know the highway code when they don’t.
Anyway sorry I haven’t blogged in a while been a bit busy… haven’t been on my bike much either. Will give an interesting update soon.
Nathan

Oh for the Joys of Travel!
•June 20, 2008 • Leave a CommentI have been travelling too much this week. On Tuesday I went to visit Bath University and I ended up spending 8 1/2 hours in the car! Also yesterday I went to Royal Holloway University of London in Egham yesterday for a Maths Taster Day and guess what the trains were delayed/cancelled etc. My conclusion is that the only reliable form of transport is the bicycle.
Speaking of bikes my planned many miles this week hasn’t quite turned out as expected so far. On Tuesday I was late back from Bath so I didn’t ride the TT and on wednesday the morning was wet and I was too tired to go out on my own in the wet. So so far I’ve done abot 30km this week… in contrast to 246km last week. This should change over the last three days of the week but still its demoralising.

Just keep pedalling
•June 15, 2008 • Leave a CommentWell I seem to be doing pretty well at that. My months mileage (so far – from 20th May) has just reached 1000km.
Yesterday I went up Bison again, this time I was on my own so I gave the ride a bit of a pounding and so I managed to average 28km/h (over 40km) until I reached the outskirts of town when I slowed to cool down and get some recovery in. Today I went on a slightly longer ride with my friend Mark whos just about at the peak age. So overall he is a stronger rider than me but on the longer, steeper climbs I can still ride him off my wheel. I really need to get him to ride my club TT. So we got about 55km in, in about 1h 50mins so that was reasonable for the terrain round here. Its not got any big hills but its not flat so its not very fast.
Will probably go on a recovery ride tomorrow, and then I have the club TT to do on Tuesday after visiting Bath Uni.

No more exams!
•June 12, 2008 • Leave a CommentI had my last exam for this year today! It was Decision Maths 1 which was really easy. So that now means I’ve got nearly 2 more weeks off during which I will be visiting some Universities and doing “educational stuff” for the most part it will mean that I will be on my bike alot!
We have a “physics” trip to Alton Towers tomorrow with school. I’m rather afraid that I will be dragged onto oblivion!
I am currently trying frantically to find out about my headset because it needs replacing. (I have a Giant OCR compact road about 5 years old). If I buy the Giant brand headset it’s £30 which is quite alot. I think I need to start winning races (I need to enter some first) because this is becoming an expensive sport for me.

Prayer
•June 10, 2008 • Leave a Comment“And I get on my knees and pray” – Roger Daltrey (The Who) – “Won’t get fooled again”
How many times have you been in a tight spot and even if you don’t believe in God you have prayed. Maybe you haven’t but even so praying is an important part of life.
Prayer is a powerful force. Prayer is us communicating with God. Sometimes we worship God, sometimes we say sorry to God and other times we ask God for things. Whatever we say God listens and answers so just because the answer isn’t yes doesn’t mean God doesn’t listen.
I can’t say much about how to pray but I can say that prayer is important to have a relationship with the living God. So I challenge you if you have never prayed before to pray today and ask Jesus to answer you. If you are ready for a reply… he will.

Just because you ride a bike it doesn’t make you a cyclist!
•June 9, 2008 • Leave a CommentI say this because I am a cyclist, and I love cyclists and the cycling world. But there are people who ride bikes out there that give cyclists a bad name. On saturday I saw four riders riding along a single track road on the wrong side. With such little regard for the law among such people. No wonder motorists hate us.

Wisdom?
•June 8, 2008 • 1 Comment“I know of what it is you speak and it would seem like wisdom but for the warning in my heart” – Frodo Baggins
It’s definately true that I can speak many wise words, I can offer sound advice to accountability partners etc. I can give convincing wisdom when called upon. But there is something that makes it blindingly obvious to me that this wisdom isn’t mine. I rarely follow my own advice.
Recently, I really haven’t been having a good time. My Spiritual life has been rubbish. Now if it wasn’t me saying these words I would have so much advice to give and most of it would be pretty good. Why then can I not follow my own advice. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to?
It’s probably my human nature that is just telling me not to be bothered to spend time with God, praying, reading the Bible etc. It definately is my human nature that causes me to sin again and again which just discourages me and provides me with a reason not to bother picking myself up.
But I will pick myself up, or in fact I’ll let Jesus pick me up, and I will stand because we have a race to run.
So yes definately this wisdom isn’t mine, this wisdom comes from God. The only true source of wisdom.
Thank you
Nathan

Exams…
•June 7, 2008 • Leave a CommentI only have one more exam to go! So finally I can actually talk about them rather than forcing myself to forget about them. Maybe it was that forcing myself to forget about them that meant the Further Pure Maths exam was much harder than it should have been, but then again everyone else found it hard.
Mechanics yesterday was easy, I really should have taken it in January. Just Decision Maths to go.
I did some live presenting on www.amplifiradio.com today, that was fun.
